Hello and welcome back to my blog post! The genius hour has been a great opportunity for improvement and I am glad I took advantage of it. The project flew by and so did the semester. I kind of lost track of time and am glad the project is over with. I am glad the project is over because playing high school ball and trying to do all of the exercises is very difficult. Somehow, I managed to get them done every day despite all of the school work, school ball, and downright laziness.
Throughout the course of the project, I dealt with these obstacles every day. Some days, I just did not want to do the exercises. Yes, there were a few days that I missed but besides that, I stayed up to par. I believe at the beginning of the project, I set my expectations way too high. I thought that I could do agility and arm strength exercises when in reality, I was only able to get half of that done. Even though I did not do as much as I would have liked, I still reached my goal which was to increase my throwing velocity as much as possible. What I got to will not be sent out until I present the project, but a video will be published on my site after the presentations are done so the people in other classes and in future classes can see my results. I understand that I have been short on videos this entire project but I do have videos and am just keeping them for the presentation so my presentation isn’t just a duplicate of my blog posts and website. I am excited to present and I believe that it will be fairly easy because I know a lot about baseball and am passionate about it.

Hello and welcome back to my blog post! Our team beat Sun Valley in the first round of the playoffs! They were the number four seed and we managed to beat them! Our conference is one of the best in the state so we struggled to get an amazing spot. We moved on to play West Forsyth away which was one of the biggest games for Davie in a long time. Unfortunately, we got hammered, losing 10-0. They are a good team and have ten graduation seniors! Since they are losing a lot, they may not be as dominant next year.
Now that the high school baseball season is over, I can finally get back to working on my own time. I have enjoyed previous breaks and I was starting to get burned out from baseball due to the amount of time I was putting into the sport, and receiving very little in return. Regarding the exercises, I have decided to increase the amount that I do from one time a day to three times a day. I felt that I was significantly improving my speed and felt that I could do more in one day. Taking a rest is very important for one's arm and now that the high school baseball season is over, I don't need to rest my arm as much. I have a video that I will be sharing with everyone during my presentation. I have also been keeping some videos to myself because if I were to post them on my site, then everybody would see them and the videos would not be original. Although I only have one week left of the genius hour project, I believe that I will continue to do these exercises throughout the summer and onto the next school year. Hello and welcome back to my blog post! The varsity baseball team successfully made the state playoffs! There was a lot of confusion as if we were going to make the state playoffs or not and we did! Currently, we are a 28 seed, which is definitely not great but our conference is one of if not the best conference in the state. Being a #28 seed means we will have to play the #6 seed, which is currently Myers Park. A big convention is held over the weekend in which multiple organizations will discuss and debate what teams should play who. This means that our seed could change at any time, and our opponents.
Once again, I did not play and I am falling out of love with the game. I hope summer ball pulls me back into it because baseball has determined my entire life. I have continued to do my exercises for this project and have been seeing good improvement in my abilities. I signed up for legion ball so I will be getting plenty of reps over the summer at different positions. I will see lots of competition and am excited. Hopefully, I get into the first round of state playoffs but it is unlikely. I will still obviously be ready and competing for the spot. Next year, I have to grind for the starting spot because there is a lot of competition at every spot, which is not good. As the genius hour is coming to an end, I will probably lose my motivation to do the exercises and stuff, especially with how much I will be playing over the summer. Hello and welcome back to my blog post! The varsity baseball team played East Forsyth last night and put a great fight up against them but we came up short in the last inning, losing 11-10. East Forysth is an extremely good team with plenty of D1 commits who put on a show, but we played small ball and poked the ball everywhere. East Forsyth was top five in the state at the start of the year and we were predicted to finish seventh out of eight in our conference.
We still made the state playoffs because we finished fourth in our conference and only the top four teams make the state playoffs. We figure out who we are going to play this next Monday, May 9th. We are most likely going to get an extremely good team because it is bracket play and we are ranked 27th out of 32. We will play someone in the three to eight range, most likely. Personally, I have not played and am unsatisfied with my playing time, but am still putting in lots of work and trying to earn a spot for next year. I am continuing to do all of the exercises that are required for this project and have seen significant improvement in my abilities. My travel ball team has a tournament at the end of May and I cannot wait! I enjoy travel ball so much and have been waiting for a while now. We will be playing the majority of the summer in which we will be seeing very good competition but it will be for the best, and I am excited Hello and welcome back to my blog post! Good news! Our varsity baseball team has won three games in a row and I have played in the last two games. My dad has always told me that whenever I get into the game, I have to perform and that's what I have done in the last two games that I have started. Last Wednesday, we played Mooresville. I started in left field and played well and I had a solid hit, going 1-2. Last night against Parkland, we easily won 17-0 and I went 2-3 with a triple and a single but I was a DH so I never got into the field. My only reps at this game were in warm-ups in which I do pretty well and test my arm out. Hopefully, I get to start in the field today as we play East Surry away. It will be a very tough game that may decide if we make the playoffs or not but we are on fire right now. I have been doing all of my exercises at home and may try to get a video out this weekend with my arm being clocked. Spring break was such a relief from school but it flew by. I am excited for the next two weeks because we play Glenn which will be a good game and we also play High Point Christian who is always pretty good but you never know. I have been succeeding in practice and have been giving it my all each day in hopes of starting. Doing these exercises benefit me this year and will benefit me next year in my Junior year. My favorite part about baseball is the atmosphere of the crowd, the stadium, and even just the community. It's always nice to be on the field or at the game and I love being the center of attention at games.
Hello and welcome back to my blog post! This week has been a great week, for school, baseball, and everything else. In school, I have caught up on the assignments that I missed when I had the flu and I have done pretty good to start the new quarter. I have given myself a halfway solid base to start this fourth quarter. At the start of the third quarter, I was struggling in every class so I had to focus more of my time on school. Regarding baseball, I have not been getting many reps in games which is obviously not what I want but I am continuing to work hard to earn a starting spot. I have been getting my work done at home and on the weekends, I am hitting baseballs and working out to get stronger and fix my swing because it was not in a good spot about a week ago. Luckily, I fixed my swing and it feels amazing right now. On Wednesday, we played West Forsyth, a great rival who we happened to fall short to. Fortunately, I got in and I did great, getting a base hit and doing good in the outfield. On Friday, we played West Forsyth again but away, and we beat them 24-10! Unfortunately, I did not play at all besides pinch running. Once again, I felt as if I was throwing harder without trying as hard, which is great because it shows growth. Next week, we play Parkland and I believe I may get some playing time which is good. Something I go by that I have developed throughout this season is to not give up and give it your all. Regardless of the outcome, I will continue to work hard so I can get in this year and start next season.
Hello and welcome to my blog post. This week, I have gone through lots of difficulties and blockades that have gotten in the way of absolutely everything. First of all, I tested positive for the Flu. I've had a sore throat and terrible migraines ever since Sunday, March 27. I have not been able to do any effective schoolwork and have not left my room since Monday. Clearly, I have not done any baseball exercises or routines this week and I have fallen behind. My stamina has decreased significantly because taking off days while in season is the one of the worst things you can do.
Before I contracted this virus, Braeden Rodgers and I along with a few friends went to Ellis’ baseball field to get some work in. We did live at-bats, where the pitcher and hitter face off in a simulated game, which was beneficial because I am in a slump right now. We then threw a good amount, ranging from 10 feet away, to roughly 250+ feet away. Once we reached our max throwing distance (considering the terrible wind that day), we worked closer and closer to each other, throwing harder from close range. Luckily, I took a video of the entire process of throwing and edited it into a shorter video with music and clean cuts. It was surprisingly easy to do this because CapCut’s interface is unchallenging. It only took me about twenty to thirty minutes to make the video. The hard part about this is uploading it onto my webpage. I made a YouTube account and uploaded the video there and will be uploading the video later tonight at the latest. My goal by the end of the week is to get another video posted of me doing my band exercises and to regain the stamina that I had about a week ago. Hello and welcome to my blog post. I have made the decision to completely drop agility and speed exercises, workouts, and routines completely. I am dropping these from my routine for a few reasons. The first reason is that my leg has been about 95% for a while now and I do not want to hurt it anymore because I want to stay healthy. Reason number two is because the workouts and exercises are very strenuous and they take a very long time. The third reason is that I have very limited time to do these because I get home at about 7 pm every day because of baseball and I am exhausted. There are many days when I do not even do my homework because I cannot keep my eyes open past a certain time.
On the bright side. I have filmed all of the videos but I have not edited them all together. I am having a little bit of difficulty with the editing of the video but I will try to edit them this weekend. I am trying to get the videos out but I keep forgetting on the weekend because I do not think about school on the weekends, my only days of free time. Regarding high school baseball, I have not been getting very many reps which is not good because I need to get these in-game reps in order to get better. We have also not had many field practices lately due to the bad weather. At the practices that are on the field, I, once again, feel like I am totally throwing harder and it is much easier to throw farther and harder. Another thing that really is weighing me down is that I cannot work out with weights because I do not want to be sore for practices or games that we have the next day. Hello and welcome to my genius hour project. This is my fourth week doing this project and I am seeing progress. This week, Davie plays East Forsyth Tuesday and Friday which is good because the days are spread out and I have time to get some work in at home. Yesterday, we played East Forsyth but lost. We play them Friday away which will be a tough game.
Regarding my project, I have been doing my exercises and what not and my leg is back to 100% thankfully. The routines that I am doing are constantly being crammed into my schedule and some days I have not been able to do them with how busy I have been in the past two weeks with all sorts of things. As I was looking at Braeden Rodger's post, I noticed he said he went and worked out in the morning before school which would be great if I started to do that too. The plus side of this is that I get the workouts out of the way, not having to do them late at night after a long day of school and baseball workouts. Another positive thing about a workout in the morning is that I get to get up and go before the school day. A couple of cons of this are that I will lose sleep (not like I am getting enough anyways), and that I will be sore throughout the day. Back to the baseball side of the project, I feel like I am throwing harder with less effort. For example, in warm-ups yesterday at the game, I felt like I was throwing much harder than usual. My body has felt really good recently and I am going to try my best to keep it that way by stretching a lot and taking better care of it. Hello and welcome to my genius hour project. This is my third blog and I am starting to see progress! I have been doing the arm exercises daily and have tried to max out this week. My leg feels a hundred times better but I still do not think that it is 100% and I do not want to hurt myself during baseball season. Yesterday at practice, I threw a pen, or I basically pitched, at about 90%, looking for mostly accuracy while staying consistently fast. I hit 81 mph which is good but I have done better and I will be doing better on a 100% pen which will not be too far away.
I will be trying to get a video out this weekend of my exercises. The video will only regard throwing and no agility but I will get an agility video out hopefully the following week or weekend but it all depends on how my leg feels. The bad part about this project is that it interferes with school baseball which is the season that I am currently in. Although I am getting reps at school, I do not think that I am getting enough but that can change. Another bad thing about this genius hour project is that my workload is extremely big and it is near impossible to go to school, then baseball practice until about 6 pm, do my workouts at home, eat, then do homework, and the list goes on, all while trying to get a good nights rest. Fortunately, I have done the exercises but I am constantly worn out and I have absolutely zero free time on my hands, including weekends. It is definitely going to be tough to keep these habits up but I guess that is what this entire project is about, to push myself. |
